Newly minted Newcastle United could rival Arsenal for Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas, according to reports.
De Tomas joined current club Espanyol in 2020 from Benfica and is contracted to them until 2026.
He has so far featured on 89 occasions for Espanyol, netting a very respectable 45 goals in the process.
De Tomas’ impressive form over the last year or so has also seen him earn his senior Spain debut back in November of 2021.
His performance have understandably attracted the interest of clubs in search of a forward this summer, with SuperDeporte claiming Arsenal have been considering a move for some time now.
However, after finalising the signing of Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal’s striker hunt may be over, and according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Newcastle have now entered the race to sign him.
Newcastle already have two strikers on their books in form of Chris Wood and Callum Wilson. However, Wilson is very injury-prone whilst Wood scored just two league goals in 16 outings last term.
So, if Newcastle are looking to progress up the division now they have the world’s richest owners, signing someone like De Tomas would be a real step up.
And as Arsenal are seemingly not that concerned with Tomas anymore, Newcastle could have a straight run at him.
