Boris Johnson has suffered another blow as PM

Gary Neville has made a sly dig at Boris Johnson just minutes after Sajid Javid and Rishi Sunak resigned from the cabinet.

The Manchester United legend to Twitter with a snap of him sipping on a glass of wine with the caption 'work event'. The tweet came less than 20 minutes after the former Cabinet ministers told the PM they had lost confidence in him.

The tweet was a cheeky reference to a recent scandal that had seen Johnson break lockdown rules - in what he claimed was a 'work event'. Johnson survived the resulting vote of confidence, but the exit of Javid and Sunak could be the fatal blow.

Neville hasn't been quite of criticism of Johnson, and he hit out at his response to the Ukraine war.

Johnson compared Ukrainians wanting freedom to the Brexit vote, he said: "I can give you a couple of recent, famous examples. When the British people voted for Brexit in such large numbers, I don't think they were remotely hostile to foreigners."

Neville responded on Twitter: "He’s an absolute disgrace to the end!"

Neville has become increasingly involved in politics in recent years, and he joined the Labour party in January.

“That is purely for myself,” he said. “I want to support Labour. I do believe that we need a progressive Labour party but one that not just looks after the left side … it has to come towards the centre.”
