Fabio Carvalho reveals his motivation for joining Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp talks
Carvalho has his eye on potential greatness, since his move to Liverpool

New Liverpool signing Fabio Carvalho hinted he has his eye on becoming the “best player in the world” after completing his £7.7million move to Jurgen Klopp ’s side.

The Merseysiders wrapped up a deal for the 19-year-old in May, but he has only just been unveiled by the club. He is the second new signing to be officially announced by the club this summer, after £85m man Darwin Nunez arrived from Benfica.

Carvalho is almost certainly a player for the future, as he will likely begin his Liverpool career behind the likes of Nunez, Luis Diaz. Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, and, to the relief of Reds’ fans, Mohamed Salah. But the Portuguese ace appeared confident and excited for the future, in what was his first official interview as a Liverpool player.

“I feel like to be the best player in the world, you have to play with the best,” Carvalho said to LFCTV. “That’s what I’m here to do.”

Klopp thought he had signed the 19-year-old in the January transfer window, only for a move to fall through on transfer deadline day. Nevertheless, the German persevered with his interest in the Portuguese Under 21 international to bring him to Anfield.

And Carvalho admitted that the former Borussia Dortmund boss is one of the main reasons why he has joined the club. “One of the main reasons that I joined is because of him,” he continued, when asked about Klopp’s influence.

“I’ve seen what he’s done to develop players to the next step and I’m sure he’s the right person to do so with me." Carvalho will have a huge task when it comes to cementing a place in Klopp's first team plans for himself.

The Reds won the League Cup and the FA Cup last season, and were a whisker away from adding the Premier League and the Champions League to their trophy haul. However, Carvalho believes he is excited by the prospect of playing with Liverpool's star-studded side.

“There are some big names and I’m looking to make a big name for myself as well," he added. "There are big players and I’m just looking forward to learning from every single one of them, from their different experiences. I think they will be able to help me and hopefully I’ll be able to help them.”
