Neymar refuses to leave Paris Saint-Germain

French club need to decrease the wage bill

Paris Saint-Germain need to let go of a number of players and Neymar is among the candidates, given his hefty salary and the high fee he would attract.

However, the Brazilian has no desire to leave, having reminded everyone connected with the Parisian club who have approached him that he has no plans to move from the French capital.

Neymar earns around 50 million euros gross per season, according to L'Equipe, a salary that few, if any, clubs in Europe would be able to offer him.

The only thing that is clear to PSG at the moment is that Kylian Mbappe has signed his contract renewal until 2025. That, and that Luis Campos has become the club's new sporting advisor.

After that, it's all unknowns given that UEFA have asked for an explanation of the club's balance sheet, which shows a loss of 224 million euros.

The first consequence of all this is the need for the Qatari club to start to lighten their squad, which according to LaLiga president Javier Tebas has more than 600 million euros in salary expenditure, in the absence of the significant percentage increase in Mbappe's new contract.

PSG would prioritise the sale of Neymar over that of Leo Messi, with the latter having just one year left on his contract while the Brazilian would bring in a big fee.

There is plenty of unrest at PSG these days, and very few players are certain of their futures due to the disappointing European campaign that they went through last term.
