Manchester United could look to sign Tammy Abraham this summer
Manchester United could turn to Tammy Abraham after missing out to Liverpool on Darwin Nunez.
The Red Devils had looked to hijack Nunez's move to Anfield but the Uruguayan striker now looks set to complete his move from Benfica to Liverpool for a club record fee. United officials are understood to have been left disappointed by their failure to lure Nunez to the club and are now looking at other striker options.
TalkSPORT's Alex Crook reports Erik ten Hag's side could look to bring Roma forward Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League after his impressive debut campaign in Italy.
Speaking to TalkSPORT's GameDay podcast, via The Sun, he explained: "I've just got a suspicion they might try and get Tammy Abraham out of Roma. He was someone that I think they looked at in January.
"As I've mentioned, we interviewed Tammy on Darren Bent's Boot Room and he seemed very settled in Italy but Roma aren't in the Champions League and nor are Manchester United.
"I think eventually he will want to come back to the Premier League. The question again is: Are Manchester United an attractive enough proposition for him?"
Both United and Roma will play in the Europa League next year, after missing out on Champions League qualification in their respective leagues last season. The two sides both finished sixth, but whereas Roma won the inaugural Europa Conference League, United's abject 2021-22 ended without any silverware.
Ten Hag is thought to be keen on signing a new centre forward this summer with Edinson Cavani's pending departure set to leave Cristiano Ronaldo as the club's only senior striker. Ronaldo will turn 38 before the end of the season.
Abraham joined Jose Mourinho's Roma last summer for £36million from Chelsea after scoring 26 goals in his 89 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and Swansea City.
In his first season in Italy, he bagged 27 goals and added five assists in 53 appearances, with 17 of his goals coming in Serie A as he ended the campaign as Roma's top scorer and helped them clinch their first major European trophy.
His form for the club has not gone unnoticed, either, with Arsenal also having a reported interest in the club and the Gunners were said to be preparing an approach for Abraham as recently as April.
