Jesse Lingard is reportedly edging closer to a return to West Ham United with David Moyes rushing through a contract offer for the midfielder.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer and set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season after more than 20 years with the club. According to the Daily Mail, West Ham and Moyes are keen to bring Lingard back to the club on a free transfer following his successful loan spell last season.

Lingard scored nine goals in 16 appearances to fire West Ham to fifth place in the Premier League and earn an England recall.

The Hammers had wanted to make the move permanent last summer but Lingard instead remained at United, with a January move to Newcastle United also failing to materialise.

Lingard has struggled for regular game time at United again this season, starting just four matches across all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

As a result, he is set to leave the club he joined at the age of seven when his current deal expires this summer, with West Ham amongst the clubs said to be interested.

Newcastle have also been linked with signing Lingard but it is understood Lingard has priced himself out of a move to St. James' Park due to his wage demands.

West Ham will be in Europe once again next season following their run to the last four of this season's Europa League before losing to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.

Moyes' side are confirmed of at least a seventh-placed finish and a place in the Europa Conference League but could leapfrog the Red Devils into sixth with a win away to Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day.

Away from their pursuit of Lingard, Moyes is also thought to have Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter and Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd amongst his list of potential transfer targets.
