Pep Guardiola reportedly has a secret Twitter account that he uses to monitor what is being said about his Manchester City team.
The Catalan coach is on course to win the Premier League this season after Liverpool dropped points to Tottenham on Saturday. A 1-1 draw saw City stretch their lead at the top of the table to three points following their victory over Newcastle.
After a 5-0 drubbing of the Magpies, Guardiola went on to claim in his post-match press conference that everyone wants Jurgen Klopp's men to go on and win the title ahead of City. And the 51-year-old likes to keep up to date with what is being said about his team on social media via an incognito account.
According to The Athletic, Guardiola has a secret Twitter account where he keeps an eye on the current topics surrounding his side. Whether people agree or not, the former Barcelona boss has already made up his mind on how he perceives the rest of the country's media when speaking about his club.
"Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone," Guardiola said on Sunday. "Of course because Liverpool has an incredible history in European competition. Not in the Premier League, because they have won one in 30 years, but it is not a problem at all.
"The situation is what it is. We have to get nine points maybe six, it depends on the next two games in terms of goal difference. Now Wednesday is the real final for us, our destiny is in our hands and this is important, that's the reality."
Guardiola's view that the media does not favour City is one that is widely held around the Etihad headquarters. It is believed that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are given fairer treatment compared to themselves.
“Liverpool, alongside United, are the most important teams in history in terms of titles, legacies, history, dramas — many many things. But we are since the last 10, 11 years being there," Guardiola added.
“I know we are sometimes uncomfortable, but I don’t care if the people want Liverpool to win more than us, it’s not the issue, it’s normal. Maybe they have more supporters around the world for sure, and here in England, but this is not the question.”
