Rovers claimed third place in League Two in dramatic fashion by beating already relegated Scunthorpe 7-0 on the final day of the season.

The striker scored five goals in the last two games to help the Gas clinch third spot in League Two

There were jubilant scenes at the Memorial Stadium as Rovers fans poured onto the pitch in their thousands.

And the celebrations continued long into the night on the streets of Bristol with fans and players involved.

Collins, who scored 17 goals this season including two against Scunthorpe, got a little carried away.

Still in his full kit, he climbed on top of a traffic light outside The Royal Oak pub with his adoring supporters beneath, and began to drink beer and sing "We are going up!".

Draped in a flag that bore the same words, the former Forest Green man then proceeded to pour booze over his head.

Rovers fans loved every second as they egged him on after a day of football they will never forget.

Northampton thought they had clinched the final automatic promotion spot by beating Barrow 3-1 but Rovers had other ideas.

Joey Barton's side only led 2-0 at half-time but scored the five goals they needed to secure third place on points scored - with the 7-0 scoreline equalling the Cobblers on goal difference.

Promotion marks an incredible turnaround for Rovers who lost six of their first ten games this season.

Even last week their promotion prospects seemed over before Collins saved the day with a hat-trick, including two in the last five minutes to complete an unlikely 4-3 win over Rochdale.

Northampton now have to pick themselves up for a play-off semi-final clash against Nigel Clough's Mansfield, with Swindon and Port Vale also finishing in the play-off places.
