Everton fans set off fireworks outside Chelsea's hotel at 3am

Frank Lampard's Everton are on the brink of being relegated from the Premier League for the first time, as the Merseyside club are currently in the bottom three and five points from safety.

Hosting their coach's former club Chelsea on Sunday, Everton know that a win is necessary at Goodison Park, and the preparations for the game in the city began the night before the match.

Fireworks outside Chelsea's hotel

Everton fans set off fireworks close to the Hilton Hotel, where Chelsea are staying. Guests at the hotel reported that their sleep was interrupted at around 2:40 a.m. local time, with the fireworks display continuing for around half an hour.

Posts on social media showed the lengths Everton fans went to in order to disturb Chelsea's sleep, seeking any advantage they could.

Photos showed fireworks positioned near the hotel's forecourt, as well as other posts showing individuals throwing objects - fireworks included - at the hotel's doors.

Everton fans are also planning to line the city's streets on Sunday to welcome their own team bus to Goodison in an attempt to motivate their players for a must-win match.
