Liverpool have announced that Jurgen Klopp has signed a new deal to extend his stay at the club until 2026, and the German has admitted that his wife played a key role

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that his wife Ulla had a crucial role in him extending his stay at Liverpool, as the German signed a new contract on Thursday.

The Liverpool boss has been revolutionary since arriving at Anfield in 2015, and his current deal was set to expire in 2024. The German has previously hinted that he could leave his role at the end of his contract, but he clearly isn't finished at Liverpool just yet.

His new deal was confirmed by Liverpool on Thursday, much to the delight of the club's supporters. But they may have Klopp's wife to thank for playing a key role in the German's decision.

Klopp may have extended his stay for an extra two years, but he has signed a brand new four-year contract that will see him remain at Anfield until 2026. And in Klopp's announcement video, he admitted that his wife, Ulla, played a massive role.

The German said: "There's something to announce. Like last time, some will like it, some will not like it too much. I stay for another two years. And not only me! No. All my coaches as well which is the most important, actually.

"'Why?' is now the question, because Ulla wants to stay! As a good husband what are you doing when your wife want to stay? You stay. That's not the only reason but it's one of the reasons.

"You know, I love our club and it's the best place to be. I feel really, really lucky. What is it now? Six-and-a-half years ago FSG thought it would be a good idea to bring a German fella in and here we are.

"We'll stay for another two. Makes it four, from now on. Wow, that's a long time in football. Hope we all will enjoy the time together. The most important contract I signed in my life is the one with Ulla.

"And that's why it started again because we were sat at the kitchen table and Ulla said 'I can't see us leaving in 2024'. I said, 'what?'. That's how it all started and when that started I thought 'let's have a think'.

"And when I thought about it it was clear that I need to have one more really important conversation, that's the one with Pep Lijnders. Because he is probably the main reason for it.

"And our connection is beyond football things. When he said 'oh yes, I'm in' then it was clear that we were open for any kind of talks. And that's why I'm sitting here now."

The Premier League will have to brace itself for another four seasons with Klopp in charge at Liverpool, and he isn't done with the current campaign just yet. Liverpool are still on course to win the quadruple, and now that Klopp's deal is signed, he can focus on the road ahead.
