There was good news for Brazilian football legend Pele this Thursday, with the 81-year-old discharged from the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein after spending three days there for tests related to his cancer treatment. He is in a good and stable condition, according to doctors.
Last September, while going for a series of routine examinations that had been postponed for 15 months because of the coronavirus pandemic, doctors discovered that Pele had colon cancer, for which he has already undergone surgery once.
Since then, he has been undergoing treatment that has included chemotherapy sessions. There have been monthly tests to check the effectiveness of all the treatment against the tumour.
In recent years, Pele's health had also deteriorated due to other causes, such as spinal, hip and knee problems, which reduced his mobility and forced him to undergo other operations. He has also entered hospital in the past because of some kidney issues.
As he continues to battle cancer, he'll be back in hospital regularly. But, at least for now, he can return home after this routine visit.
