Liverpool have been told to sign Serge Gnabry by Glen Johnson
Liverpool should sign Serge Gnabry this summer if they can sort out a "clever deal", according to former defender Glen Johnson.
The German winger's future at Bayern Munich is currently uncertain with his current contract set to expire at the end of next season and no new deal agreed as of yet. This has caused Johnson to urge Liverpool to pursue a deal for the former Arsenal man when the transfer window opens in the summer.
However, he has admitted that it is only a transfer worth considering if the club can get a "sensible deal done" to sign the 26-year-old.
Speaking to BettingOdds.com, Johnson explained: "I think if Liverpool can get a sensible deal done for Serge Gnabry then it would be worth doing.
"I don't know what his contract situation is but if there's a chance you could do a clever deal without a crazy transfer fee then he's certainly got the ability to enjoy the Premier League.
"Obviously they've got fantastic players in that position, but the more you sign players like that, the more it brings out of everybody else."
Gnabry joined Bayern from Werder Bremen back in 2017, having previously spent five years at Arsenal after originally joining the club's academy as a teenager.
He has since gone on to win three league titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup with the German giants, as well as scoring 20 goals in 31 caps for Germany.
So far this season, Gnabry has scored 15 goals and assisted 10 for his team-mates in 41 appearances across all competitions as Bayern sit nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
Gnabry's contract situation has seen him linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly interested.
United fans have called for Jesse Lingard to help convince him to join the club, whilst Gnabry fuelled rumours of a Gunners return after posing in a retro Arsenal shirt back in March.
A move to Liverpool could also be on the cards, with the Reds at risk of losing star man Mohamed Salah by the end of next season, with his contract expiring in 2023 and a new deal yet to be agreed.
