Netherlands and Germany inseparable

The Dutch came from behind to draw

The Netherlands had to come from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Germany in their international friendly fixture on Tuesday night.

The pair faced off as part of their World Cup warm-up plans, ahead of the tournament in Qatar later this year, with it kicking off in winter. Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn got the leveller after Thomas Muller had given Germany a lead in first-half stoppage time.

Muller's opener was a thumping finish and was the final touch on a nice German move. Timo Werner slipped Jamal Musiala in on the left-hand side of the Netherlands' box, and he cut back but the chance appeared to go begging. It fell, though, for the Bayern Munich man on the edge of the area, and he arrived to hammer it in through a crowd of orange shirts.

Bergwijn has been in good form lately though, and he got his fourth goal in his last three games for Louis van Gaal's side just nine minutes after his introduction, which had come just before an hour was on the clock. A deep cross from Frenkie de Jong found Inter's flying full-back Denzel Dumfries on the byline, and he headed back to Bergwijn to finish.

The two sides will now await their respective draws for the World Cup group phase on April 1 in Doha.
