Sixty million euros for Tchouameni is a good deal

It may seem expensive, but Real Madrid are in dire need of midfield reinforcements

Real Madrid have Aurelien Tchouameni high on their list of targets for the summer. The question now is whether they will pay the 60 million euros that Monaco are asking for the player.

Whether that sum is expensive or not depends on the needs of the Spanish club, but it is clear that the team have not had a replacement for the ever-present Casemiro for a long time and with what they have at Valdebebas, they are not taking the plunge.

Real Madrid should not hesitate with Tchouameni. For all the scouts, he's seen as the perfect player who would cover Real Madrid's needs, with a midfield that has been refreshed with Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde's step forward, but it's a midfield that has been crying out for more consistency for a long time now.

The former Rennes player can play in a couple of roles, one of those being deep as a Casemiro stand-in, but he has already shown that he is more comfortable further up the pitch. The Monaco player scored his first goal for France against Ivory Coast, and no one doubts that he has earned his place under Didier Deschamps. A 60 million euro fee is a lot, but Tchouameni is worth it.

One of Real Madrid's options is to go all-in on Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, but passing up on Tchouameni could be a big mistake.

Paris Saint-Germain are an example, as they're a team with an enviable attack but one that shows that this alone is not enough. It wouldn't be a shock if that's why they are also in the fight for Tchouameni, although they have more advanced negotiations with Paul Pogba.

Then there is the Premier League, with Chelsea interested. Real Madrid are well placed after their last visit to Monaco, but they should not hesitate because Tchouameni will have plenty of suitors with the money to sign him.
