Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has been hammered for his "grandad" style by a former team-mate
Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva gets ribbed over his “grandad” clothes, a former teammate has revealed.
Brazilian Jemerson, who was with the midfielder at Monaco, said Silva's dress sense was the talk of the dressing room. The Portuguese international's current teammate Ilkay Gundogan has previously admitted: “Bernardo always gets bullied by the team because most of the players say he dresses like a 40 or 50 year-old man, like a grandfather even sometimes.”
But he went on to praise his friend as someone “everyone likes” in a tongue-in-cheek analysis of the Premier League's top players on ESPN called ‘Fashion Master or Disaster.”
Jemerson, currently a centre-back at French top-flight side Metz, has now confirmed Silva has always had a reputation as a bad dresser among other footballers.
He described him as a “very cool” guy in an interview but added: “People made fun of him a lot, they said he liked to wear old men's clothes. He would always appear with shirts on that had gone out of fashion. People used to rib him a lot.”

The 27-year-old Man City midfielder set alarm bells ringing earlier this month by revealing he could try to quit the club next year as he targets an emotional return to boyhood club Benfica.
He told Portuguese subscription TV channel Canal 11: “I miss Portugal a lot. If I could go back in a year or two, I would. Not only because I would like to play for Benfica again, but because I miss my family and living in Portugal very much."
Silva likes to wear what Jemerson has dubbed "grandad" clothes
Silva left Benfica for Monaco in August 2014 before signing for Man City three years later for a reported £43.5 million fee. His contract with The Citizens runs out in June 2025.
Although Jemerson took a dig at the midfield maestro over what he wore, he was very complimentary about his abilities on the football field.
Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017
“In training, it was very difficult to mark him. He would dribble and when you thought you were going to win the ball, he would find a way to keep it, because he finished very well or passed,” he said. "Also, he is very good tactically. He has an incredible vision of the game, is very skilled and gives his all for the team.”
