Former Bayern Munich and Marseille star Franck Ribery now plays for Serie A side Salernitana and has been involved in a car accident in Italy, according to reports
Former Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery was rushed to hospital with a head injury after a car accident on Sunday morning, according to reports in Italy.
Ribery, who currently plies his trade in Serie A with Salernitana, was reportedly a passenger in the vehicle.
The Italian minnows have confirmed in a statement that he will miss training while he recovers from his injuries sustained in the crash.
Corriere dello Sport reports that the 38-year-old winger was taken to hospital in the town of Battipaglia, south east of Naples, after the accident.
It adds that the car collided with a traffic light in the region of Salerno in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Franck Ribery now plays for Salernitana in Italy
Ribery has since left hospital and returned to his home to rest and recover.
The Italian newspaper also reports that local authorities from Agropoli attended the scene of the accident.
"Following a car accident, the footballer Franck Ribery, who was not driving the car, suffered a slight head injury." a statement from Salernitana read.
"The athlete will remain in rest for a few days as a precaution."
Ribery, a Champions League winner with Bayern Munich and World Cup runner-up with France, joined Serie A minnows Salernitana after leaving Fiorentina at the end of last season.
Ribery is now 38
The veteran star has featured 16 times in the league this season, most recently playing 71 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Bologna over the weekend.
It has been a difficult season for Salernitana, who are rock-bottom of the division with just three wins from 25 matches.
The Salerno-based side have enjoyed a magnificent rise up the leagues in recent years, having been in Serie D as recently as 2012.
They won promotion from Serie B last season after finishing second behind Empoli.
Ribery enjoyed huge success with Bayern Munich
Ribery vowed that he still had a "lot to prove" after joining the newly-promoted side in the summer.
He said: "I still have a lot to prove. My passion moves me above all, but my family also played a fundamental role in my choice."
The Frenchman, who won nine Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, has also played for Marseille, Galatasaray and Fiorentina in a career which has spanned over two decades.
