He has broken into the first team this season but has a staggering £500 million release clause.
Yet City know that is essentially a ‘hands off’ figure.
That is as well as the fact he currently only earns around £10,000-a-week.
Barca are still not out of the woods financially, and have delayed a number of contract renewals, with Gonzalez and fellow golden boy Gavi chasing improved deals.
City know all about the young midfielder, as his dad Fran remains friendly with Pep Guardiola from their own playing days in LaLiga.
The two clubs have also renewed good relations this term, with Ferran Torres moving from Manchester to Barcelona in December.
The ace only has 20 months left on his current deal.
And should the Spaniards fail to agree a new contract with Gonzalez then City are ready to swoop if they choose to cash in this summer.
He has made 28 appearances this term for Barca and scored twice.
