Chelsea prepare a new bid for Kounde

Chelsea haven't given up in their pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. The European and world champions came close to signing the Frenchman last summer, but the Andalusian club stood firm and refused to sell for less than their asking price.

In London, however, the Blues are readying another bid in an attempt to sign the player this coming summer, as they are preparing to make a lot of changes to their defence at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Antonio Rudiger's contract is coming to an end and he is yet to renew at Stamford Bridge, with many expecting his time in West London to be in its final few months. Kounde is widely seen as the man to replace him, as was the case last summer when he was so close to making the move.

Chelsea are adamant that he is the man they want, and they'll be doing their utmost to get a deal over the line this summer.

Newcastle and Diego Carlos

One unwanted consequence of Sevilla's impressive form in recent seasons is that the Premier League's moneyed clubs are coming knocking for their players.

In January, Newcastle were close to signing Diego Carlos for around 50 million euros, but Monchi and Sevilla refused the Magpies' approaches as they are hoping to make a real push for the LaLiga Santander title this season.

But the club are aware the England's newly-rich club will return in the summer to sign the defender, meaning they could lose both Carlos and Kounde to Premier League clubs.
