An insight into just how heavy a hit Manchester United missing out on Champions League football for next season would have on the finances of Cristiano Ronaldo has been provided on Monday evening.
Ralf Rangnick's men are of course currently in the thick of the race for the Premier League's top-4.
In fact, after getting the better of West Ham courtesy of a last-gasp Marcus Rashford winner over the weekend, the Red Devils climbed clear of David Moyes and co. into the final Champions League spot.
The situation, however, remains on a knife-edge.
This comes with Arsenal just two points behind, boasting a game in hand. Not only that, but Antonio Conte's Tottenham sit level with their north London rivals, whilst boasting two games in hand on United.
As such, the Red Devils actually clinching 4th, as things stand, remains far from a sure thing.
And, as alluded to above, on Monday, an insight into just how hard United missing out on a spot in Europe's elite club competition for 2022/23 would hit the club's star man has been provided.
As per a report from reliable outlet The Athletic, should Ralf Rangnick and co's efforts fall short, then Cristiano Ronaldo will be forced to come to terms with a 25% reduction in his wages.
This comes owing to a clause in the contract signed by the Portuguese upon his return to Old Trafford last summer.
Rashy the hero
As alluded to above, Manchester United's place back in the top-4 at present comes owing to a late, late effort to get the better of West Ham this past Saturday.
On the back of a frankly lacklustre 90 minutes, the spoils looked certain to be shared between the two sides as proceedings at Old Trafford rolled into time added on.
Step forth, Marcus Rashford.
In a move which saw a trio of Red Devils substitutes combine, Edinson Cavani was slipped in by Anthony Martial, to square across the face of goal for the awaiting Rashford to slot past Alphonse Areola, and break Hammers hearts across the nation in the process.
