LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher was quick to take to social media to make light of Rafa Benitez's sacking at Everton.

The 61-year-old was axed by the Toffees on Sunday afternoon following the club's 2-1 defeat against Norwich at Carrow Road.

Jamie Carragher took joy in Benitez's sacking with the Toffees languishing in 16th spot

He leaves the Merseyside outfit in 16th spot in the table having lasted just 19 Premier League games.

Everton's loss on Saturday against the Canaries means they have won just once out of their last 13 top-flight fixtures.

And Carragher, who won the Champions League and the FA Cup under Benitez's tutelage at Anfield, revelled in his termination at Goodison Park.

He posted a picture of Liverpudlian comedian Darren Farley dressed up as Benitez in Everton training gear with a Reds hat.

Captioning the tweet, he simply said: "Rafa Benitez sacked."

Fellow fans were also quick to joke about 'Agent Rafa' on Twitter, as one account shared a snap of a Liverpool fan crying, where they commented: "Mum, they've sacked Agent Rafa."

A third added: "Great work Agent Rafa, return to base for debriefing."

This supporter then joked: "Agent Rafa Return to base. I repeat return to base."

Meanwhile another simply stated: "Agent Rafa....return to HQ, job done."

Everton delivered just a 40-word statement after announcing Benitez had been relieved of his duties.

It read: "Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as First Team manager.

"Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect.

"An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course."
