Despite Brighton's exceptional start to the Premier League season, the club are facing a difficult January transfer window as interest has built in their best midfielder Yves Bissouma, yet the Seagulls will not accept any offers lower than £50 million this month.

Aston Villa have been interested in the 25-year-old, whilst Arsenal and Liverpool were both linked with summer moves for the Malian midfielder.

The Athletic reported on Sunday that Brighton have the advantage of not needing to sell halfway through a campaign which has promised much under Graham Potter.

However, a potentially difficult moment would come if a team agreed to offer the aforementioned fee for Bissouma, which the club would find very hard to reject.

Bissouma's contractual situation

Bissouma only has 18 months left on his contract at the Amex Stadium, meaning that leaving the situation until the summer could be potentially costly.

The midfielder has shown no indication that he is willing to sign a contract extension at this juncture, and Brighton aren't quite in a position to lose him for nothing, even with the cash injection from Ben White's £50 million sale to Arsenal last summer.

At just 25 years old, Bissouma is seen as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and any buying club know that his best years are more than likely ahead of him.

His work in a holding midfield position for Potter has been stunning, especially with his passing so effortlessly accurate, although teams are likely to see the demanded fee as restrictive.

Moises Caicedo

Bissouma's replacement is already contracted to Brighton, though, with the club having shown their foresight and scouting prowess in signing Moises Caicedo in January 2021.

The Ecuadorian midfielder is currently on loan to Beerschot in Belgium, but he will be back and ready to start matches for the club in the summer.
