Manchester United striker Martial a shock target for Newcastle

With Antony Martial's Manchester United career seemingly over, Newcastle have emerged as candidates to sign the striker before the end of the month as cover for the injured Callum Wilson.
Martial's representative Philippe Lamboley admitted in December that the 26-year-old was looking for more playing time away from Old Trafford, and would aim to depart the club in January.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was not interested in bringing Martial to St James' Park as he was initially not the type of player needed, but after news Wilson could be out for the remainder of the campaign, the Magpies' boss has had a change of heart.
In addition, Newcastle are unwilling to let players leave the club due to the COVID-19 situation, and instead are hoping to increase the size of the playing squad as they seek to avoid relegation.
Martial, who has made just two Premier League appearances all season, has three years left on his Manchester United contract after having signed a new deal in 2019.
