Gerard Pique has made no hiding of his dislike towards former candidate for the Barcelona presidency Toni Freixa, and has responded to a tweet that Freixa made about the food that Barcelona players eat.

Freixa asked his followers if they could imagine that professional players eat steak, fries, fried eggs, nutella pancakes and drink beer, which caught Pique's attention.

"You got the steak part wrong... it was Catalan sausage. The rest is ok," Pique tweeted.

"I'm now going to drink a gin and tonic to your health! Now you can keep deleting your tweets, you scoundrel."

Pique bites back

After the Barcelona defender sent the tweets, Freixa deleted his original posts which can no longer be found on his profile.

Pique had argued with Freixa recently over reports that Ousmane Dembele had decided not to renew his contract at Barcelona.

He stood up for his teammate, who was being criticised online by Freixa and even reminded the former candidate that he forgot to pay his associates from his failed presidential election campaign.

This recent argument stemmed from news in recent weeks that Xavi had established his own standards for the players' diets, which meant that they would be fed more than they were prior to his arrival.

Who is Toni Freixa?

The Catalan lawyer has been on the board for a number of Barcelona presidencies and has ran in presidential campaigns on two occasions.

He was a member of Joan Laporta's board of directors between 2003 and 2005 before resigning due to a lack of affinity with the current Barcelona president.

Freixa finished fourth in the 2015 elections, gaining 3.7 percent of the vote, with eventual winner Josep Maria Bartomeu winning the presidency with 54.63 percent of the vote. Despite the defeat, he ran again in 2021 but finished last, as Laporta was reinstated as president.
