Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has, on Thursday, spoken out over claims that his recent treatment of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang resembles that of a 'dictator'.
Auba stripped
The name of Gabonese hitman Aubameyang has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines over the last couple of weeks.
This comes owing to a chain of events which ultimately culminated in the Gabonese being stripped of the captain's armband at the Emirates.
Aubameyang is understood to have returned late from a trip abroad earlier this month, an infraction which, initially, saw the ex-Borussia Dortmund man dropped for a Premier League meeting with Southampton.
Add to this the fact that the 32-year-old has struggled for form, as well as having his commitment to the Arsenal cause called into question this season, and manager Arteta coming to the eventual decision to seek out a new leader for his panel of young stars becomes all the more understandable.
'Auba', in turn, has since been omitted from the Gunners' ensuing three matchday squads, too.
'Respect and commitment'
It should therefore come as little surprise to hear that, upon speaking to the media earlier today, Arteta was drawn on his decision to banish Aubameyang to the stands.
Perhaps even more noteworthy, though, was the Arsenal boss being pressed on claims that he now cuts the figure of something of a 'dictator' in north London, owing to his treatment not only of the Gabonese, but also Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi and more.
Arteta, however, was quick to shut down such suggestions, assuring that he asks only 'one thing' of his players:
'I don't establish my authority by being dictatorial. I just ask for one thing, it's respect and commitment. That's all.'
'If you don't ask for that at this level, I think I pack my bags and I go somewhere else.'
