Sergio Aguero has reiterated that tests and treatment will continue for a period of 90 days after rumours began to swirl that he was set to retire from professional football just months after joining Barcelona.

The Manchester City icon was substituted and rushed to hospital during Barca's La Liga draw against Alaves in late October having complained of breathing issues to club staff.

Following precautionary checks, the 33-year-old was then diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, with the club announcing that he would miss at least three months of action.

After reports claimed that his heart problems were complex enough to force him to end his professional career, Aguero took to social media to explain his current plan.

He wrote: "Given the rumours, I tell them that I am following the indications of the club's doctors, doing tests and treatment and seeing my progress within 90 days. Always positive."

"Sergio Aguero has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure by Dr. Josep Brugada.

"He is out and for the next three months the effectiveness of the treatment will be evaluated to determine his recovery process."

Aguero has managed one goal for the club across his five appearances, and that was against rivals Real Madrid after coming off the bench in his first Clasico.

Aguero said after joining: "We all know that Barcelona are the best club in the world so I think I made a great decision to be here and I hope to help the team.

"Of course it is a step forward in my career and hopefully I can help the team win things. I want to play and help this squad, and if the team does it well, I will be happy individually.

"I want to send a big hug to everyone, to all the supporters I will try to give my best and hopefully the fans will enjoy my skills. They enjoyed me in other shirts but now I am here."
