Manchester United are 'happy with the direction' the club is heading in under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite winning only two of their last six fixtures in all competitions

Manchester United bosses have no intention of replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager this season and remain 'happy' with the direction the club is heading in.

The Red Devils have slipped two points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea and out of the Carabao Cup following a positive start to the season, and were seconds from having just one point from their opening two Champions League outings.

Having drawn with Everton last time out after Solskjaer dropped Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench, the Norwegian has been put under more pressure than he might be comfortable with at Old Trafford.

However, there appears to be plenty of confidence in the former Cardiff boss and his chances of winning major silverware ahead of the upcoming international break.

The Sun report that the Old Trafford hierarchy are 'happy with the direction' the club is going in under Solskjaer.

They add that he is seen as the head of the long-term project, and are 'fully behind' what he is trying to do as they aim for an elusive Premier League title.

That comes despite Solskjaer being placed under more pressure by their fine work in the transfer market, with Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane being joined by Ronaldo in the summer.

Solskjaer said after their most recent slip-up: "The mindset is good, the players are hungry to improve. Every game is a big game at Man United, so it's a big month.

"It has been a big month.

"Lots of changes have happened at the club in the last month, so we've just got to be focused, make sure we use the international break well, us as coaches, who stay at home.

"The other ones who go away with their national teams come back with energy again, clear focus, good mindset and do well.

"But the mindset is good, the players are hungry to improve and today we dominated the game, we just couldn't get that second goal that you need in games like this because Everton, as we knew from last season, can score a goal from nowhere."

Next up for United after the international break is a trip to take on Leicester in the Premier League before the visit of Serie A's Atalanta in their third Champions League outing.
