In what is the latest in a line of crowd disturbances involving Marseille this season, the French club's Europa League clash with Galatasaray had to be halted in the first half due to the letting off of flares.

The incident took place in the 38th minute with both Turkish supporters and French launching firecrackers and smoke-bombs onto the playing surface.

This left Polish referee, Pawel Raczkowski, no choice but to call a temporary halt to proceedings, whilst the players watched on from the sidelines.

Fernando Muslera went over to the away section to call for calm from the Galatasaray supporters, whilst it fell on Dimitri Payet to do the same for the hosts.

After an eight minute interval the match resumed and finished 0-0 with neither side able to break the deadlock.

There have also been a number of clashes in Ligue 1 this season as fans began returning to the stadiums after almost a year away.

The match between Nice and Marseille was suspended after fans made their way onto the pitch. While there was a similar incident during the Lens v Lille game.
