Manchester United hold a significant advantage over Premier League rivals in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, according to reports. Since opting for Dortmund over the Premier League last year, the 18-year-old has lit up the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Bellingham entered the limelight in the 2019/20 season as he consistently stole headlines as a 16-year-old in Birmingham City's midfield.
United were interested in the teenage sensation and made a significant play to secure his services.
The club gave Bellingham and his family a tour of the Aon Training Complex in Carrington in April 2020.
He even met iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they tried to lure him to Old Trafford.
Jude Bellingham is a regular starter for Borussia Dortmund.
But Bellingham saw a more straightforward route to regular first-team football in Germany and soon after completed a £25million move to Dortmund.
His instincts were correct, as he's made an impressive 53 appearances in just over one season with the Bundesliga giants.
Bellingham's impressive form secured him a spot in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 squad, and he's already earned eight caps for the Three Lions.
Links to a blockbuster return to England were inevitable after his Birmingham exit, and United are reportedly at the front of the queue.
According to The Sun, Man United's previous efforts to impress Bellingham have helped them steal on a march on Premier League rivals also interested in the superstar.
Bellingham and his family were 'really impressed' with the effort the Red Devils made and the respect shown during their attempt to sign him.
United 'did everything right' during Bellingham's tour of the training ground and meetings with club figures.
That has unsurprisingly left a lasting impression on the young Englishman, who Dortmund could cash in on in the next few years.
The Sun claim Manchester City and Chelsea are both interested in Bellingham, whilst Liverpool have been linked elsewhere.
With Erling Haaland set to leave if - or when - his £64m release clause is triggered next summer, it's difficult to see Dortmund offloading two major names in the same period.
Bellingham could have one more season in Germany beyond the summer before sealing a big-money return to England in 2023.
With Paul Pogba's future still uncertain, Man United could view Bellingham as a dream replacement.
