Harry Kane has spoken out on his failed desire to quit Tottenham for Manchester City.

Harry Kane insists his conscience is clear after his failed bid to engineer a summer move away from Tottenham. Kane was keen to quit Spurs for Premier League champions Manchester City but eventually confirmed he would stay in north London last week.

The England captain believed he had a gentleman's agreement with chairman Daniel Levy to move on after Spurs' failure to win silverware last season and said on Tuesday night he was not at fault for trying to activate it and seal a transfer to Man City.

"Anyone involved in the football industry knows the ins and outs and I was calm with the situation. It was between me and the club. When you know the truth and you know what is going on, your conscience is clear,” said Kane.

He strongly rejected criticism that he had downed tools after returning from holiday and insists he will give his all for Spurs from now on.

"I have had ups and downs and I know a lot of people who know I am a professional athlete and dedicate my life to this game,” Kane told talkSPORT.

"My focus moving forward is to win silverware at Tottenham and this year is no different. We have started brilliantly in the Premier League with three wins and we have a new manager.

"This is my focus. We want to win as many games as possible and get that trophy I have wanted all my career.

"I know there was a lot of noise around me but I was calm. I knew the situation between me and the club.

"Everyone had their opinions but I am fully focused with club and country and looking forward to a great year.”

Kane will lead England in Hungary on Thursday night in a World Cup qualifier as they return to action following their crushing shoot-out defeat in the Euros final.

The Three Lions skipper is meanwhile delighted to be back with his international team-mates following an emotional summer.

He continued: “Yes it is great to be back. It has gone so quickly. I don’t know if we will ever be over it, even going back to the World Cup semis.

"I still think about what could have been in the shoot-out. I have lost finals and it is about moving forward. It was our first final in 55 years. Now it is about qualifying for Qatar.

"Sometimes you cannot put your finger on what went wrong and we have spoken about that is not the final hurdle for us and we have a lot of give and a lot of ambition in this team.

"This team is in a great place but we are not stopping there and it is important to push on. I have no doubts in this team.”
