Lucas Torreira snubs watching Arsenal team-mates in favour of going theme park

Mikel Arteta appears to have no plans for Lucas Torreira to re-join his current squad, though he may reconsider that after Friday night's defeat

Wantaway Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira chose not to watch his current club play against Brentford in the opening game of the season on Friday night, instead opting to enjoy an evening out at a Spanish theme park.

The Uruguay international signed for the Gunners in 2018 for an estimated fee of £26m from Serie A side Sampdoria, but in recent seasons he has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium.

In his debut 2018/19 campaign at the north London club Torreira made 34 appearances and scored two and assisted two, but the following season his amount of appearances dropped to 29 before he was sent away on loan to La Liga last year.

The 25-year-old made 19 appearances for Atletico Madrid and helped the side to their first league title in six seasons, but that deal was not made permanent and Torreira is now waiting to find out where he will be playing in the upcoming season.

However, it looks incredibly unlikely that he will be staying at Arsenal, especially after he didn’t even bother to stay at home and watch his current employers play on Friday night.

The tough-tackling midfielder instead opted to post a photo on his Twitter of him at the Parque Warner in Madrid, a theme park, with friends and family.

The image obviously went infuriated the Arsenal faithful, with some making the point that those who are paying his wages for such excursions are on television at that exact time.

If Torreira did remember to check the result on his day out then he certainly would have cracked a wry smile as Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Brentford.

Goals from Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard were the difference on the night in a match that Bees fans will remember for many years to come.
