Arsenal have been frustrated in their attempts to sign Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal have reportedly given up hope of signing Aaron Ramsdale after growing frustrated in negotiations with Sheffield United. The Gunners have been on the look out for a second goalkeeper this summer to compete with Bernd Leno for the No 1 spot.

Andre Onana had originally been Arsenal's first-choice target to come in this summer.

But the Gunners switched their attention to a homegrown alternative to Leno last month.

There has been regular contact between Arsenal and Sheffield United, who value Ramsdale at £30million.

Reports this week had suggested the latest batch of talks between the two clubs were heading in the right direction and Arsenal were growing confident a deal could be done.

However, any deal for Ramsdale now appears to be out of the question following a setback in negotiations.

According to The Athletic, 'length discussions' were held on Wednesday between the two clubs.

Arsenal were hoping the Blades would drop their £30m asking price, but they were refusing to budge.

Sheffield United's refusal to negotiate has now reportedly led to Arsenal withdrawing their interest in signing Ramsdale.

Arsenal were hoping an offer which included add-ons would be enough to tempt the Blades into selling.

There had also been strong interest from Arsenal in signing United's Sander Berge, but signing a goalkeeper is the first priority for the Gunners.

Arteta was asked about the prospect of a back-up goalkeeper joining this week following the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

"I don't know, I repeat myself," he said.

"We train with the players we have available, we are trying to do the right things to improve the team in the areas that are needed.

"At the moment we have come so far and the window is still open."

Signing another midfielder is also a top priority for Arsenal in the remaining few weeks of the transfer window.

James Maddison remains strongly linked with a move to the Emirates, but the Gunners are so far reluctant to meet Leicester's £60m valuation.
