Inter Milan and Denmark star Christian Eriksen has made a little girls' wish come true by sending her a video message as she prepares to get a heart-starting device fitted

Christian Eriksen has sent a touching video message to a nine-year-old girl who requires a heart-starting device.

Eriksen, 29, collapsed when his heart stopped while playing for Denmark against Finland during Euro 2020.

Speaking after the match, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen was "gone", but quick thinking medics were able to save his life using CPR and a defibrillator.

He was taken to hospital where he was fitted with a heart-starting device (ICD) and able to begin his recovery.

Last week, Eriksen returned to Inter Milan's training ground for the first time since the horrific ordeal.

And now he has made a little girl's wish come true after sending her a video message as she prepares to undergo her own operation to have an ICD fitted.

Evie, 9, watched as the former Tottenham Hotspur star collapsed at the Euros and two days later was told she required her own ICD.

Several weeks ago, she posted a letter to him hoping for a response.

To her delight, Eriksen went one better than writing back, choosing instead to send her a personal video message.

In a video shared by the family on Facebook, Eriksen said: "Hi Evie, it’s Christian.

"Thanks for the lovely letter, I just read it through tonight. I hope you are feeling comfortable and confident going into the operation.

"It’s never fun to be in hospital, but I’m sure the doctors know what they are doing and they will help you.

"I’m sure you will get back to normal life very quickly afterwards, I know I did. I’m sure it’ll be the same with you.

"I just wanted to wish you all the best and hopefully maybe we’ll see each other in future."

Eriksen returned to Inter's training ground last week, but the future of his playing career remains unclear as he will not be allowed to play in Italy unless his ICD is removed.

"The Danish midfielder met the club directors, the coach [Simone Inzaghi], teammates and all of the staff present," a note on the club website said. “Eriksen is doing well and is in excellent physical and mental shape.

"He will now follow the recovery programme put forward by Danish doctors in Copenhagen, who will also coordinate the clinical follow-up.

"The Inter medical staff will naturally be kept informed and up to date throughout the process."
