Wayne Rooney has suffered a turbulent summer at Derby but can celebrate points on the board and the addition of ex-Manchester United star Ravel Morrison

Wayne Rooney's Derby got their campaign off to a reasonable start as the Rams drew 1-1 with Huddersfield.

Curtis Davies netted the opener in the first-half before Naby Sarr equalised for the visitors at Pride Park.

Earlier this week it looked like it would be a walkover for Carlos Corberan men before a covid outbreak hit Huddersfield's camp.

Rooney has also had a tumultuous build-up to the curtain-raiser with Derby suffering a transfer embargo in recent weeks due to breaking EFL regulations.

Before today's draw, the former Manchester United boss managed to get a few more bodies over the line.

Davies, Richard Stearman and Ryan Allsopp all joined in the hours before kick-off.

But moments before Derby's campaign officially got going, they also announced the addition of Ravel Morrison.

The journeyman cast doubt on his future with a cryptic social media post this week.

But fans in Derbyshire will be delighted to have the attacker on the books this term.

Speaking during Morrison's trial period, Rooney said: "I think with Ravel, he's very misunderstood. His ability is clear for everyone to see.

"Since he's been with us, the standards in training have gone up. There are things he does on and off the ball that I can recognise immediately. That's where he's brought the levels up in training.

"He showed some nice touches on the pitch against United but we need to remember he hasn't played for a very, very long time. So it was natural that physically he was going to tire."

As for Rooney himself, he claims he is sleeping in his office at the club's training ground as he bids to try get more players through the door this month.

I slept on the couch in the office last night [Thursday] and I’ll be sleeping on my couch again in my office tonight," he said.

"Trying to get these players over the line as quickly as possible so that we don’t lose out on them.”
