Real Madrid awaiting a call from Al-Khelaifi about Mbappe

Despite the fact Paris Saint-Germain are launching an operation to sign Lionel Messi, the club's position with regards to Kylian Mbappe hasn't yet changed, with PSG insisting that they won't sell.

Whilst they are putting increasing pressure on the forward to sign a contract extension, Real Madrid continue to watch events from afar, and are ready in case they have to make a quick manoeuvre this summer.

If Los Blancos need to make a strong financial investment in getting Mbappe a year early, they are ready and prepared for it, although they will not initiate any move.

Los Merengues want to see what happens with Messi and if PSG can incorporate his salary into their financial projections for the 2021/22 season.

If Messi does arrive in the French capital then it is likely someone will need to leave and at the present moment only Mbappe appears willing to depart this summer.

The former Monaco talent has endured the pressure from his club to sign an extension and is seemingly determined to wear the white of Real Madrid, be that in 2021 or 2022.

As such, Real Madrid expect a phone-call from Nasser Al-Khelaifi before the end of the transfer window, with the Qatar-owned club looking to do a deal once Messi has been signed.

If that is to happen, the Spanish club will make their move and use the funds they have recouped already this summer, as well as the wages saved by allowing Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane to leave.

It will run until the last day

Real Madrid don't intend to make any purchases in the market before the final day of the window on August 31.

They are currently focusing on sales and will only move for Mbappe if they believe it to be an endeavour that will end in success.

For that to be the case, everything needs to come from PSG, they are in control of the situation and they have to decide whether they will cash in on the player or continue to press him to renew and hope he doesn't leave on a free transfer.

Signing Messi would complicate matters financially, or should we say from a financial rules perspective, and the chance to bring in upwards of 150 million euros for Mbappe may sound more appealing on August 30 than it does right now.
