Grealish has completed his Premier League record-breaking move to Manchester City, leaving Villa fans conflicted about their former captain's decision to leave the Midlands club

Aston Villa fans have been left fuming after Manchester City announced the signing of Jack Grealish in a British record-breaking move.

City have paid the Midlands club in the region of £100million for the attacker which has smashed the transfer record for a Premier League player.

Grealish has spent all but a season-long loan spell at Notts County at Villa Park, becoming one of Dean Smith’s most important players and the club’s captain.

When the club were relegated to the Championship in 2016, Grealish opted to stay with the club and helped them to promotion through the play-offs three years later.

The 25-year-old has now moved to the Etihad Stadium though, to link up with Pep Guardiola and challenge for the Premier League title.

He has signed a six-year contract with the reigning champions, but risked the wrath of Villa fans by claiming the move is a "dream come true”.

"City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club,” he said.

"Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.

"To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want.”

Villa fans were clearly left unhappy by those comments and despite Grealish’s importance to their club in recent seasons, they blasted their former skipper.

"Thank you for nothing and goodbye,” one fan wrote on twitter along with the snake emoji.

"Wish him nothing but the worst,” another added.

Some fans, while disappointed with Grealish’s decision, were determined to focus on the club’s business so far.

"We move. We’re AVFC not JGFC. Having an absolutely incredible window so far. Onwards and Upwards,” one said.

"Mixed emotions with him buying into the project then jumping ship when we were still showing ambition but he’s not getting any younger I guess,” a second fan wrote.
