BRUNO FERNANDES looked almost up to full steam as he returned to training with Manchester United after his holiday on a yacht - but is NOT ready to face Brentford on Wednesday night.

The star midfielder recovered from Portugal's Euro 2020 disappointment by relaxing on a family trip with wife Ana Pinho, although he did stop off to train with his first club Boavista.

Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was impressed with Fernandes at the Carrington training ground but insisted the 26-year-old was not yet up to speed enough for United's next friendly.

Solskjaer told United's media team: "Bruno is back in training. He's not ready to join the Brentford game yet, but he's not too far."

After winning 2-1 in their first warm-up game at Derby and losing 4-2 at the Rams' Championship rivals QPR, Solskjaer is ready to gradually phase in more of his established stars.

Donny van de Beek and Diogo Dalot are tipped to start on the bench away to the Premier League newcomers on Wednesday, having only returned to training last week.

But England back-up keeper Dean Henderson and ankle-injury victim Alex Telles are expected to miss out.

Solskjaer added: "We're adding more and more players now of course.

"Dean is back in training which is good for us, he won't be ready for the Brentford game.

"Diogo and Donny have trained and they're ready to play a part in the game, I would think they'll be subs."

United's defending at Championship side QPR hinted at why Old Trafford chiefs have agreed to buy Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

It's thought United will complete a £41million deal for the 28-year-old France star within days.

And Solskjaer said: We've looked at it and we need to tighten up a little bit in the shape in front of the back four and, hopefully, we can see that against Brentford."
