Tottenham are said to exploring the possibility of a move for Lyon's Houssem Aouar, according to reports in France. The 23-year-old is high in demand and could leave the Ligue 1 club this summer, with Arsenal once again keen on securing his services.

Yet the Gunners do not have a clear run on the player with the race now hotting up.

Last summer, they were rivalled by Barcelona and Juventus but nobody was willing to pay the £45million figure quoted by Lyon.

Now things are different with the French top-flight now starved of cash due to ongoing complications with the TV broadcast deal and not only that, but Lyon failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Le10 Sport claimed earlier this week that Arsenal had lodged their first bid of the summer for Aouar.

Last summer they saw two official proposals rebuffed by Lyon, who did not feel under any pressure to sell.

The details of Arsenal's bid are yet to be disclosed, however, Le10 Sport now claim Spurs are in the running.

Tottenham are now looking to make several high-quality acquisitions to their squad as they look to make up ground on the rest of the top-four.

Aouar could be exactly that and is the kind of signing that would galvanise the fan base following a tough season last time out.

Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Aouar though and is expected to push for his services once again.

He first became attracted to his talents while working as Pep Guardiola's assistant manager at Man City, following a 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Champions League group stages.

The Spaniard wanted Arsenal to sign Aouar over Thomas Partey, who eventually arrived on deadline day last October after his £45million release clause was met.

Earlier this week, Aouar was forced to issue a statement denying reports that he missed Lyon training to force through a transfer.

"Once again, unfortunately another fake news was published across social media," he said.

"I don’t usually answer what’s been said about me… I was sick and hospitalised over the weekend.

"I am doing much better now and I am ready for what comes next.

"Thank you to those who have always supported me, in the good as well as in the mad moments. Go OL!"

Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in a deal this summer.
