Tottenham have announced the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as the club's new head coach.

Tottenham have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach. Nuno has signed a deal until the summer of 2023 to finally end Spurs' search for a new boss. The north London club sacked Jose Mourinho in mid-April and failed to land a number of their top targets.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wanted to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to the club but Paris Saint-Germain would not allow the Argentine to leave.

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte also held talks but a deal fell through, as it did with ex-Roma manager Paulo Fonseca.

Nuno was clearly not the first choice for Spurs but they have finally settled on the former Porto goalkeeper.

Nuno left Wolves at the end of last season after four years in charge at Molineux.

Levy says the Portuguese will fulfil his ambitions of playing attractive football.

Levy told the official Spurs website: “First of all, I’d like to welcome Nuno to the Club.

"We should like to thank our supporters for all their patience throughout this process.

"I’ve spoken already about the need to revert back to our core DNA of playing attacking, entertaining football and Fabio and I believe Nuno is the man who can take our talented group of players, embrace our young players coming through and build something special.”

Fabio Paratici has taken over as Tottenham's managing director of football this summer.

And the former Juventus chief has explained why they ended up choosing Nuno as the club's next boss.

Paratici said: “The brief for this appointment has always been clear, we wanted a Head Coach that can instil all the values that are important to this Football Club.

"You only have to look at Nuno’s time at Wolves to see his ability to take a group of players and implement an adaptive style that brings success and allows players to develop and thrive.

"We are all looking forward to getting started in what we hope will be a successful time with the Club.”

On his appointment, Nuno insisted work must start straight away ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Nuno said: "When you have a squad with quality and talent, we want to make the fans proud and enjoy.

"It’s an enormous pleasure and honour (to be here), there’s joy and I’m happy and looking forward to starting work.

"We don’t have any days to lose and we must start working immediately as pre-season starts in a few days.”
