Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has issued an apology after he was pictured kissing a mystery brunette aboard a yacht during his summer break.

The German was believed to be in a relationship with German model and television presenter Sophia Thomalla, but he admitted their union “is now falling apart.”

Karius—who looks set to return to Anfield following three seasons on loan in Turkey and Germany—was seen holidaying in Mykonos, Greece, when he was snapped aboard a yacht with a new love interest.

The identity of the woman remains unknown, though Karius was quick to explain his activities abroad via social media.

Karius—who turns 28 on Tuesday—took to Twitter and said he and Thomalla are no longer together: "Yesterday, Sophia and I were leaked photos from my vacation that show me with another woman.

"It is unfortunately true that we have drifted apart for a long time.

"I am sorry that it is now falling apart and I would like to apologise for that.”

Thomalla, 31, confirmed to the Daily Mail that she no longer considers Karius a ‘keeper,’ saying: “Yes, I saw the pictures today as well. There is only one thing left to say: we are no couple anymore.”

Neither Karius nor Thomalla have posted any recent pictures of one another on social media, and it’s unclear as to whether they were still an item at the of Karius’ kiss.

The Liverpool flop hasn’t made an appearance for his Premier League employers since his two costly errors paved the way for Real Madrid to win the Champions League final in 2018.

It’s believed Karius was in a relationship with Thomalla since January 2019 when he was on loan with Turkish giants Besiktas.

Karius' ex-girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, has also confirmed their split

He spent back-to-back campaigns on loan with the Istanbul outfit before joining Union Berlin on temporary terms last season, moving to the city where Thomalla was born and raised.

Karius made only five appearances for the club as he played back-up to Andreas Luthe, and only four of those came in the Bundesliga.

The stopper recently spoke to Sport Bild about his regret in how he reacted to his 2018 Champions League final shame: "Believe me, I've learned a lot from that! In retrospect, I should have dealt with it more aggressively in public.

"I had a concussion after a blow from Sergio Ramos, which restricted my spatial vision. This was unequivocally ascertained in a detailed study by one of the world's leading brain specialists.

"At first, I was happy to know what went on in this game. I didn't want to make it public myself. When the result was released, there was a lot of malice and insult, often well below the belt. I never used it as an excuse. But when people make fun of someone who has badly injured their head, I have no understanding.

"All my efforts and good performances before were suddenly no longer relevant. The reactions were over the top and disrespectful, especially that it has been drawn out in this way. Errors are measured with different, even abnormal, dimensions and are not assessed fairly.”
