The tournament is once more in doubt
Luiz Fux, president of Brazil's Supreme Court (STF) has accepted the request of Minister Carmen Lucia to preside over the cancellation of the Copa America in the country.
The tournament was moved from Colombia and Argentina due to political unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic, but Brazil is also under significant strain due to coronavirus and the 2021 Copa America is again in doubt.
According to Globe Esporte, the trial will take place over 24 hours, starting on Thursday at midnight.
Due to the health situation in Brazil, the Workers Party (PT) and Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) have both voiced opposition to the tournament being played in the country.
Health experts have also criticised the move, with Brazil having had almost 463,000 deaths from COVID, in addition to 16.5 million confirmed cases.
The Brazil national team players have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the Copa America being played in Brazil, though they will not boycott the competition.
