Barcelona to extend Emerson's contract until 2026

Emerson's agent, Frederico Pena, met with Barcelona directors this Thursday to discuss a two-year extension to the right-back's contract at the club. This will keep the Brazilian - whose rights Barcelona fully acquired from Real Betis earlier this week - at the Camp Nou until 2026.
As the club have done with other players, their plan is to reduce his current wages and defer that money to later years.
His playing time was also discussed at the meeting, according to Mundo Deportivo, with the idea being to keep him in the side for the upcoming season.
Emerson adds further competition for the right-back spot, a position where the Azulgrana are spoiled for choice, with Sergino Dest the preferred starter and Sergi Roberto and Oscar Mingueza having played there previously.
An impressive campaign at Real Betis convinced the Catalan side to pay the nine million euros to bring him back to the club. Despite numerous clubs eyeing him up around Europe, he seems set to stay at Barcelona.
