Arsenal 'leading the race' for Man City's Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling & Man City

Raheem Sterling has of course been a mainstay in Manchester City's attack for many years now.

In 292 outings for the Sky Blues, the attacker has managed to rack up 114 goals and 87 assists – playing a key role in the club's recent dominance of the English top-flight.

However, recent months have seen Pep Guardiola limit Sterling's game-time, both in the league and in Europe.

The former Liverpool man featured for just two minutes over two legs as City saw off Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League's quarter-finals, before then being left on the bench for the first of two semi-final meetings with PSG as well.

Granted, Sterling did start in the CL final. But his subpar display is unlikely to have won over Pep Guardiola.

And though Sterling was featuring fairly heavily at the back end of the PL season, it was quite clear City were often starting a second-rate eleven in these games, with Phil Foden now seemingly Guardiola's preferred option on the left for the important games.

Arsenal eyeing Sterling

After seemingly falling down the pecking order at Man City, reports began to emerge that Sterling could perhaps be on the move this summer.

And though Sterling was not named specifically, a recent report from The Athletic claimed some Man City players would be open to leaving as they were not happy with their minutes:

Now, speculation stemming from England has provided some insight into at least one club who may be open to signing Sterling this summer.

According to the Sun, Arsenal are leading the race for Sterling.

It is added that despite being on around £300,000-a-week, Arsenal would be 'more than willing' to pay up for Sterling's wages.
