Thomas Tuchel is set to sign a new contract with Chelsea this week after masterminding their Champions League triumph.

Beating Manchester City in Porto has triggered a clause that automatically extends his current 18-month deal.

But after initial discussions with owner Roman Abramovich last night, a bumper new long-term contract is now being readied.

Tuchel said: “I think that I have a clause that makes my contract a bit longer if I win the Champions League.

“I’m not 100 per cent sure, but my manager said it some weeks ago. I don’t know how many years.

“And even if it’s like this, we all know that even if we have a longer contract, there are no doubts I want to stay.

“It will not affect my input and my energy. I’m very happy to be here, it’s a fantastic beginning and we go now for the next one.”

Tuchel met billionaire Chelsea owner Abramovich for the first time on the pitch in Porto on Saturday night.

But the two have now held preliminary talks about the future - with Abramovich convinced Tuchel is the next big thing in coaching.

The Russian oligarch feels vindicated for his decision to sack Frank Lampard and bring the former Paris St-Germain boss in.

He has been hugely impressed with the way Tuchel has transformed the club and will give him money to spend this summer.

Chelsea are looking to sign a striker but Tuchel, who is set to move his family into a house in this country in July, revealed there could be more signings.

He said: “Two or three could be very, very good. We don’t need another seven and another complete turnover.”

Blues defender Antonio Rudiger, who is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, is also set to sign a new deal after the Euros.
