Manchester United would love to land Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in this summer's transfer window.

Manchester United can sign Erling Haaland for cheaper than the £156million fee that was previously bandied out, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund striker is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target. But landing him won’t be straightforward given the intense competition for the player’s signature.

Manchester United are sold on the signing of Haaland.

Solskjaer, John Murtough and Darren Fletcher have all agreed the 20-year-old would be a good recruit for the club, providing he can be prised away from Borussia Dortmund.

While the Norway international has been in sensational form this season, scoring 25 Bundesliga goals from 26 appearances in the competition, Dortmund have endured a rough campaign.

They’re currently fifth in the league table, two points adrift of Wolfsburg in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

And, now, Haaland’s price tag has been altered.

Eurosport acknowledge there was previous claims the striker would cost potential suitors a massive £156m.

Yet insiders at the club now think Dortmund would be willing to negotiate for around £130m instead.

Dortmund are still hopeful Haaland will stay with the club, instead believing he’s likely to leave when his price drops to £66m per a clause in his contract next year.

But there’s uncertainty in the air over at the Westfalenstadion, especially with their involvement in Europe’s top club competition far from guaranteed.

United’s need to sign Haaland may soon intensify, too.

Edinson Cavani may depart the Red Devils, with the veteran reportedly keen to return to South America with Argentine club Boca Juniors.

And, should Cavani go, Solskjaer knows he requires a top marksman.

Chelsea are also in the mix to sign Haaland but their own involvement in next season’s Champions League is far from assured, even if they’re fourth at the current moment in time.

Barcelona are admirers, too, but the huge finances required for a deal complicates matters.

And while Real Madrid have been linked, Haaland isn’t their main priority with Kylian Mbappe instead the dream target of Los Blancos chief Florentino Perez.

Meanwhile, speaking recently, Rio Ferdinand pitched Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a potential Haaland alternative.

"Listen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin for me, I love him," Ferdinand told the Five YouTube channel.

"I’ve watched a lot of Everton this year and he’s one that unnerves defenders. He’s not one you want to play against week in, week out. He’s aggressive, he attacks the ball.

"I was speaking to Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year and he mentioned [Filippo] Inzaghi and said he didn’t need many chances to score goals and he scores goals in and around the six-yard box.

"I look at Calvert-Lewin this season and he’s listened to that, he’s taken that on board. Obviously he seems a real good student of the game and he’s started putting that into his own game.

"We’ve seen the rewards he’s had, he’s got into the England squad by scoring loads of goals in and around the six-yard box, scoring those ugly goals. I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United.

"It’s one out of left field a little bit but I think he’d have a big impact. He’d get on the end of the things created by Fernandes, Pogba, [Marcus] Rashford, [Mason] Greenwood, etc."

Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, has played down talk that there’s a ‘war’ between himself and Dortmund after he was photographed meeting Real Madrid and Barcelona chiefs.

"I can confirm that I've been in Dortmund,” he said.

"Michael Zorc - Dortmund's sporting director - made very clear that they don't want to sell Erling.

"I respect it but it doesn't mean that I agree. There is no war between me and Dortmund."
