Lewandowski to miss second leg of Bayern Munich's Champions League quarter-final against PSG with knee injury

The Bavarians must try to overturn the 3-2 aggregate deficit without their top scorer, who they missed badly as they squandered chances at home

Robert Lewandowski has confirmed he will miss the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain next week as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

The Bayern Munich striker sustained the blow during the international break with Poland, and he will not be returning to the pitch until he feels "really good and safe".

Lewandowski's absence creates a massive challenge for the Bavarians' attack as they try to fight back from a 3-2 deficit without his prolific goalscoring abilities.

What has been said?

"No, [next week] is still too early," Lewandowski told Sky Sports. "I'll do everything I can to get back on the pitch, but only when I feel really good and safe. It's not a good feeling to sit at home."

What happened in the first leg?

PSG took advantage of a Bayern defence that has been creaky all season, as Kylian Mbappe netted twice and Marquinhos added another.

The Parisians now take three away goals into next Tuesday's clash.

Who will start in place of Lewandowski?

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting got the nod in the first leg, scoring once with his head and hitting the woodwork on another occasion.

Serge Gnabry's absence has further depleted Bayern's attack, making Choupo-Moting likely to retain his place in the line-up next week alongside Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.
