Michael Owen gets into argument with Ian Wright over current Liverpool form

Liverpool have been on a very poor run of form in the Premier League in recent weeks, especially at home, but Michael Owen has furiously defended their ranking compared to Man Utd

Michael Owen and Ian Wright found themselves in an argument over whether Liverpool could still be considered the second best team in the Premier League.

Ahead of the trip to Wolves, the Reds sit down in eighth after a miserable run of form, especially at home.

However, in the last 48 months they have lifted the Champions League and Premier League with essentially the same side Jurgen Klopp still has at his disposal.

Manchester United have enjoyed a decent rise this term, and now sit in that second spot, closely followed by Leicester.

But Owen, unlike Wright it seems, thinks that that presents a false narrative between his former clubs.

"The table obviously says that [United are second best] so you've obviously got to lean with that," Owen told Premier League Productions.

"I still watch them and try to fathom out 'what is a Manchester United style?'.

"What does Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tell them before the game? Because to me the team actually sits there and it looks like they've got counter-attacking off to a tee, I think they're a fantastic counter-attacking team.

Michael Owen passionately defended Liverpool despite their poor form recently

"Still have questions against them when they're playing against teams who like to defend. Are they the second best in the league?

"Man City are far and away, Liverpool are the second best really, not in recent weeks, but they are.

"I still think they’re the second best team in the league. They’re recent European champions."

But Wright cut in, saying: "Not the way they’re playing now, Mick, not the way they’re playing now."

Owen then accused Wright of trying to wind him up, forcing the former Arsenal man to chuckle, before Owen continued.

"They’re reigning Premier League champions," he added. "So they’re still a very good team, just in a bad patch.

"Chelsea are looking good as well. You could still argue that they’re the second best."
