Paul Gascoigne is set to be a star in Italy again having reportedly signed up for the country’s version of I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!
Gascoigne shone at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, helping England through to the semi-finals of the competition.
They took on West Germany with it ending in tears for Gazza as a yellow card meant he would have missed the final, though England were beaten on penalties.
But Gascoigne will be hoping for a happier ending this time around, with the 53-year-old agreeing to take part on Isola de Famosi, translated as Island of the Famous, according to The Sun.
Paul Gascoigne is an England icon and is loved in Italy
It’s reported that Gascoigne has undergone extensive mental and physical tests with the ex-Newcastle and Tottenham star having a history of drink and drug abuse.
The show starts on March 11 and runs for two weeks with celebrities heading to Honduras for their stint.
Gascoigne will reportedly have to quarantine in Honduras for two weeks before the show starts.
The Sun add that UK authorities let the former Lazio star take part as it is work related and he is not travelling to red list countries.
A source told the newspaper: "Getting Gascoigne has been hard work but will be worth it.
"He’s such a character. He is the biggest star of the show. He passed all his tests while in isolation in Italy.
"No issues were uncovered so he’ll fly to Honduras with the others next weekend."
Former footballers Francesco Coco, Stefano Tacconi and Salvatore Schillaci have previously taken part in the show.
