Ocampos impressing with Sevilla
Lucas Ocampos joined Sevilla in the summer of 2019 from Marseille.
The Spanish outfit are believed to have paid around £13.5m to bring the winger to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
Ocampos has since established himself as an integral member of Sevilla’s attack, featuring 75 times across all competitions.
The Argentine notched 17 goals and five assists in 44 outings last season, playing a key role in Sevilla clinching yet another Europa League title.
The winger has since enjoyed a decent 2020/21, too, scoring seven and assisting four (whilst sidelined at present).
Liverpool linked with Sevilla’s Ocampos
And now, he appears to be attracting interest from a top Premier League side.
As per a report from Spanish outlet Larazon, citing Calciomercato, Sevilla need to make a big sale this summer, with Jules Kounde and Ocampos viewed as potential options.
In terms of teams interested in Ocampos, it is claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to take the 26-year-old to Anfield.
However, the report also claims that the attacker’s current deal with Sevilla, which runs until 2024, contains a €65m release clause.
So, at that fee, should Liverpool really be looking at Ocampos?
The winger, who can play on either flank, is a decent player, and would no doubt be a useful option for the Merseysiders.
However, it is hard to imagine him being used more frequently than either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane.
This would see Ocampos take on a backup role, similar to that filled by Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino (before the latter’s loan departure for Southampton).
And whilst Ocampos may be more effective than the latter of that duo, spending €65m on a squad player would be a questionable move.
