Sergio Ramos wants to join Manchester United and has ruled out a move to either Liverpool or Manchester City, according to reports. The Spain international's contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the campaign. He’s been at the club ever since his arrival from Sevilla in 2005, back when Vanderlei Luxemburgo was manager.

Ramos is currently weighing up his options, with Real Madrid currently unwilling to meet his wage demands.

And The Mirror say a move to the Premier League could be on the cards when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.

It’s claimed the 34-year-old is unwilling to move to France with Paris Saint-Germain, who have previously been considered frontrunners in the race to secure his signature.

And Ramos’ brother, Rene Ramos, is now ‘targeting England’ as a result.

The report says the veteran, who has won four Champions League titles throughout his spell with Los Blancos, is keen on a move to United.

And he’s already ruled out switches to Liverpool and Manchester City, with Old Trafford now appearing to be his preferred destination.

Everton could even join the race for Ramos, with Carlo Ancelotti previously managing the 2010 World Cup winner at the Bernabeu for two years between 2013 and 2015.

United have tried to focus on signing younger talent in recent years, having seen Galacticos such as Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Alexis Sanchez all struggle.

But they have made exceptions in the past.

United thought Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be worth a gamble in 2016 and the Sweden international impressed during his 18 months with the club, scoring 29 times.

And Edinson Cavani has justified the club’s faith in him by scoring four goals since his move from PSG back in the summer.

United thought they were in with a chance of signing Ramos back in 2015, back when Louis van Gaal was manager.

But they ended up missing out, with the defender opting to sign a contract extension with the La Liga titans instead.

Ramos previously admitted to being flattered by interest from United when they tried to land him six years ago, even claiming there was a concrete ‘offer’ from the club.

"There was an offer from United," Ramos told COPE.

"I considered changing for a while but Real Madrid was always my priority and there were no economic reasons.

"Did I feel cheated [by Madrid]? No, but I did feel disappointed for a while. There were some troubles that came to an end."

"I have not heard about [interest from Chelsea]. Many things have always been said.

"Flattery from big clubs is always good as this is because you are doing well, but if the fans and my club want me."

Journalist Ian McGarry, meanwhile,  has previously claimed Ramos’ brother has told Real that the Red Devils ARE interested in a deal.

“Ramos remains recalcitrant with regards to signing the one-year deal that he has been offered,” he said.

“His brother is his agent in all of this and when asked a member of the (entourage) told us that this is classic Sergio, he plays poker with the president metaphorically and waits for him to blink and then signs the deal that he wants, and will stay.

“However, it is the case that the said same contact revealed to us Sergio’s brother has told them (Madrid) that Manchester United have been in contact.

“We’re unable to confirm that today on the podcast, we will endeavour to do so in the coming days for you and report that on the podcast next week.

“However, it kind of fits with some of the things that Solskjaer has been doing at Old Trafford, I’m thinking of Edinson Cavani here Duncan, in bringing an experienced and older player who has achieved lots of success.

“Ramos is if anything a brilliant leader and would be someone that would certainly be beneficial to Solskjaer’s defence in terms of commanding it, bringing calmness and a sense of authority that they currently lack as well.

“So it would not be out of any kind of sense of reality that Manchester United may well have an interest in Sergio Ramos, remember they did have interest in him the last time he was out of contract.

“Of course, Madrid do expect him to sign a new deal, but it’s just he’s waiting for the offer of more than one year.”
