Sergio Ramos is being strongly linked with a surprise move to Manchester United as his contract at Real Madrid ticks down, and his wife Pilar Rubio could play an important role in his next move

The wife of Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos could play a vital role in the Spain legend’s next move as he weights up a switch to Manchester United.

Ramos is out of contract at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, leaving his future up in the air.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League with either Manchester United or Liverpool.

But he has a clear preference, according to Sport Witness, with his wife set to be one of the determining factors.

It is claimed that Ramos’ preferred move is to remain at Real and pen a new contract with the club he has played for for the last 16 years.

Los Blancos are also said to be keen to keep their captain on their books and negotiate a new deal.

Moreever, Ramos' wife Pilar Rubio is “established” in the Spanish capital, and is not keen to up and leave after so many years in Madrid.

It’s thought that Rubio, who works as a reporter and TV presenter in her native Spain, would support her husband’s next move wherever that may take him.

But that is looking increasingly less likely to be Old Trafford, or Anfield for that matter, with Ramos also likely to factor in his wife’s preference.

Reports this week suggested that United were willing to offer Ramos a two-year contract in order to sway him to leave Real.

United have been linked with a move for Ramos before, havin tried to sign the Spain international in 2015 when Louis van Gaal was in charge.
